Aroostook County Commissioner District 1 is one of Aroostook County’s three commissioner districts under the current plan (2021, with the 2024 update). Its population was 23,244 in the 2020 Census.
It takes in 29 cities, towns and plantations, the largest Houlton, Fort Fairfield, Mars Hill, and Easton.
In the 2024 presidential race, Donald Trump carried the district with 69.7% to 29.1% for Kamala Harris. That was a Republican margin of 40.6 points, against a Democratic margin of 6.9 points statewide. In the 2022 governor’s race, Paul LePage carried the district with 65.2% to 32.8% for Janet Mills. In the 2024 U.S. Senate race, Demi Kouzounas carried the district with 48.6% to 42.3% for Angus King (Unenrolled). On the Partisan Electoral Alignment Index (Partisan EAI), it ranks as the most Republican of 60 county commissioner districts.
As of March 7, 2026, Aroostook County Commissioner District 1 had 13,381 active registered voters: 17.7% Democrats, 46.2% Republicans, 32.2% unenrolled, and 3.3% Green Independents.
