Franklin County is one of Maine’s sixteen counties, established in 1838. It has an estimated 30,824 residents (2025), compared with 29,456 in the 2020 Census.
In the 2024 presidential race, Donald Trump carried Franklin County with 53% to 44.8% for Kamala Harris. That was a Republican margin of 8.2 points, against a Democratic margin of 6.9 points statewide. In the 2022 governor’s race, Janet Mills carried Franklin County with 49.6% to 48.1% for Paul LePage. In the 2024 U.S. Senate race, Angus King (Unenrolled) carried Franklin County with 51.4% to 38.1% for Demi Kouzounas. On the Partisan Electoral Alignment Index (Partisan EAI), it ranks as the 9th most Democratic of 16 counties.
As of March 7, 2026, Franklin County had 19,246 active registered voters: 27% Democrats, 36.6% Republicans, 32.1% unenrolled, and 3.8% Green Independents. The median household income is $58,675 and the median home value $194,700, against $74,733 and $296,600 statewide.
