State Senate District 1 is one of Maine’s 35 State Senate districts, as drawn in the 2021 redistricting plan and in effect since the 2022 election. Its population was 36,844 in the 2020 Census.

It takes in 34 places, the largest of them Caribou, Fort Kent, Madawaska, Fort Fairfield, and Van Buren. It is represented in the Maine Senate by Sen. Susan Bernard (R-Caribou).

In the 2024 presidential race, Donald Trump carried the district with 59.4% to 39.1% for Kamala Harris. That was a Republican margin of 20.3 points, against a Democratic margin of 6.9 points statewide. In the 2022 governor’s race, Paul LePage carried the district with 54.6% to 43.8% for Janet Mills. In the 2024 U.S. Senate race, Angus King (Unenrolled) carried the district with 50% to 40.5% for Demi Kouzounas. On the Partisan Electoral Alignment Index (Partisan EAI), it ranks as the 7th most Republican of 35 State Senate districts.
