Cumberland County is one of Maine’s sixteen counties, established in 1760. It has an estimated 317,222 residents (2025), compared with 303,069 in the 2020 Census.

In the 2024 presidential race, Kamala Harris carried Cumberland County with 66.4% to 31.1% for Donald Trump. That was a Democratic margin of 35.3 points, against a Democratic margin of 6.9 points statewide. In the 2022 governor’s race, Janet Mills carried Cumberland County with 69.3% to 29.2% for Paul LePage. In the 2024 U.S. Senate race, Angus King (Unenrolled) carried Cumberland County with 59.6% to 24.8% for Demi Kouzounas. On the Partisan Electoral Alignment Index (Partisan EAI), it ranks as the most Democratic of 16 counties.
