Midcoast is one of twelve Regions of Maine defined for this site. It has an estimated 154,347 residents (2025), compared with 149,511 in the 2020 Census.

It takes in 55 cities, towns and plantations, the largest Brunswick, Topsham, Bath, and Belfast.

In the 2024 presidential race, Kamala Harris carried the region with 60% to 37.8% for Donald Trump. That was a Democratic margin of 22.2 points, against a Democratic margin of 6.9 points statewide. In the 2022 governor’s race, Janet Mills carried the region with 62.4% to 36% for Paul LePage. In the 2024 U.S. Senate race, Angus King (Unenrolled) carried the region with 58.8% to 28.6% for Demi Kouzounas. On the Partisan Electoral Alignment Index (Partisan EAI), it ranks as the 3rd most Democratic of 12 regions.

As of March 7, 2026, Midcoast had 109,308 active registered voters: 39.5% Democrats, 25.9% Republicans, 31% unenrolled, and 3.2% Green Independents. The median household income is $77,882 and the median home value $342,860, against $74,733 and $296,600 statewide.
