Knox County is one of Maine’s sixteen counties, established in 1860. It has an estimated 41,117 residents (2025), compared with 40,607 in the 2020 Census.
In the 2024 presidential race, Kamala Harris carried Knox County with 58.2% to 39.6% for Donald Trump. That was a Democratic margin of 18.6 points, against a Democratic margin of 6.9 points statewide. In the 2022 governor’s race, Janet Mills carried Knox County with 60.4% to 37.9% for Paul LePage. In the 2024 U.S. Senate race, Angus King (Unenrolled) carried Knox County with 56.6% to 30.7% for Demi Kouzounas. On the Partisan Electoral Alignment Index (Partisan EAI), it ranks as the 2nd most Democratic of 16 counties.
As of March 7, 2026, Knox County had 28,567 active registered voters: 38.8% Democrats, 26.8% Republicans, 31% unenrolled, and 3.1% Green Independents. The median household income is $74,096 and the median home value $324,900, against $74,733 and $296,600 statewide.
