It is part of Congressional District 1, State Senate District 33, State House District 142 (40% of residents), State House District 143 (40% of residents), State House District 141 (20% of residents), and County Commissioner District 4, in the Western Maine region.

In the 2024 presidential race, Donald Trump carried Sanford with 49.6% to 48.5% for Kamala Harris. That was a Republican margin of 1.1 points, against a Democratic margin of 6.9 points statewide. In the 2022 governor’s race, Janet Mills carried Sanford with 54.1% to 43.1% for Paul LePage. In the 2024 U.S. Senate race, Angus King (Unenrolled) carried Sanford with 47% to 37.8% for Demi Kouzounas.
