Somerset County is one of Maine’s sixteen counties, established in 1809. It has an estimated 51,620 residents (2025), compared with 50,477 in the 2020 Census.
In the 2024 presidential race, Donald Trump carried Somerset County with 62.7% to 35.6% for Kamala Harris. That was a Republican margin of 27.1 points, against a Democratic margin of 6.9 points statewide. In the 2022 governor’s race, Paul LePage carried Somerset County with 58% to 39.8% for Janet Mills. In the 2024 U.S. Senate race, Demi Kouzounas carried Somerset County with 46.2% to 43.6% for Angus King (Unenrolled). On the Partisan Electoral Alignment Index (Partisan EAI), it ranks as the 2nd most Republican of 16 counties.
