Central Maine is one of twelve Regions of Maine defined for this site. It has an estimated 203,570 residents (2025), compared with 196,279 in the 2020 Census.
It takes in 72 cities, towns and plantations, the largest Augusta, Waterville, Skowhegan, and Winslow.
In the 2024 presidential race, Donald Trump carried the region with 53.6% to 44.2% for Kamala Harris. That was a Republican margin of 9.4 points, against a Democratic margin of 6.9 points statewide. In the 2022 governor’s race, Paul LePage carried the region with 49.9% to 48.1% for Janet Mills. In the 2024 U.S. Senate race, Angus King (Unenrolled) carried the region with 48.5% to 40.1% for Demi Kouzounas. On the Partisan Electoral Alignment Index (Partisan EAI), it ranks as the 5th most Republican of 12 regions.
As of March 7, 2026, Central Maine had 124,155 active registered voters: 28.1% Democrats, 36.5% Republicans, 30.9% unenrolled, and 3.9% Green Independents. The median household income is $66,216 and the median home value $218,063, against $74,733 and $296,600 statewide.
