It is part of Congressional District 2, State Senate District 10, State House District 35, and County Commissioner District 2, in the Greater Bangor region.

In the 2024 presidential race, Donald Trump carried Carmel with 67.3% to 31.6% for Kamala Harris. That was a Republican margin of 35.7 points, against a Democratic margin of 6.9 points statewide. In the 2022 governor’s race, Paul LePage carried Carmel with 65.9% to 32.3% for Janet Mills.
