Greater Bangor is one of twelve Regions of Maine defined for this site. It has an estimated 142,230 residents (2025), compared with 136,956 in the 2020 Census.
It takes in 36 cities, towns and plantations, the largest Bangor, Orono, Brewer, and Hampden.
In the 2024 presidential race, Donald Trump carried the region with 51.4% to 46.5% for Kamala Harris. That was a Republican margin of 4.9 points, against a Democratic margin of 6.9 points statewide. In the 2022 governor’s race, Paul LePage carried the region with 49.1% to 49% for Janet Mills. In the 2024 U.S. Senate race, Angus King (Unenrolled) carried the region with 46.9% to 39.4% for Demi Kouzounas. On the Partisan Electoral Alignment Index (Partisan EAI), it ranks as the 7th most Republican of 12 regions.
As of March 7, 2026, Greater Bangor had 84,699 active registered voters: 29.1% Democrats, 35.8% Republicans, 30.6% unenrolled, and 3.6% Green Independents. The median household income is $71,174 and the median home value $239,088, against $74,733 and $296,600 statewide.
