Detroit is a town in Somerset County, Maine, incorporated in 1828 as Chandlerville. It has an estimated 929 residents (2025), compared with 885 in the 2020 Census.
It is part of Congressional District 2, State Senate District 3, State House District 69, and County Commissioner District 3, in the Central Maine region.
In the 2024 presidential race, Donald Trump carried Detroit with 66.3% to 32.5% for Kamala Harris. That was a Republican margin of 33.8 points, against a Democratic margin of 6.9 points statewide. In the 2022 governor’s race, Paul LePage carried Detroit with 61.4% to 35.6% for Janet Mills. In the 2024 U.S. Senate race, Demi Kouzounas carried Detroit with 44.3% to 39.5% for Angus King (Unenrolled). On the Partisan Electoral Alignment Index (Partisan EAI), it ranks as the 152nd most Republican of 504 towns.
