Lewiston is a city in Androscoggin County, Maine, incorporated in 1795 as Lewistown, a city since 1863. It has an estimated 38,866 residents (2025), compared with 37,121 in the 2020 Census.
It is part of Congressional District 2, State Senate District 21, State House District 95 (25% of residents), State House District 94 (25% of residents), State House District 93 (25% of residents), State House District 96 (24% of residents), County Commissioner District 2, County Commissioner District 1, and County Commissioner District 3, in the Lewiston–Auburn region.
In the 2024 presidential race, Kamala Harris carried Lewiston with 52.9% to 44.7% for Donald Trump. That was a Democratic margin of 8.2 points, against a Democratic margin of 6.9 points statewide. In the 2022 governor’s race, Janet Mills carried Lewiston with 57.6% to 40.6% for Paul LePage. In the 2024 U.S. Senate race, Angus King (Unenrolled) carried Lewiston with 52.9% to 31.8% for Demi Kouzounas.
