It is part of Congressional District 1, State Senate District 28 (55% of residents), State Senate District 27 (45% of residents), State House District 113 (14% of residents), State House District 119 (13% of residents), State House District 115 (13% of residents), State House District 118 (13% of residents), State House District 116 (13% of residents), State House District 114 (13% of residents), State House District 117 (13% of residents), State House District 112 (9% of residents), County Commissioner District 5, and County Commissioner District 4, in the Greater Portland region.

In the 2024 presidential race, Kamala Harris carried Portland with 80.5% to 15.6% for Donald Trump. That was a Democratic margin of 64.9 points, against a Democratic margin of 6.9 points statewide. In the 2022 governor’s race, Janet Mills carried Portland with 85% to 13.7% for Paul LePage. In the 2024 U.S. Senate race, Angus King (Unenrolled) carried Portland with 64.1% to 21.4% for David Costello. On the Partisan Electoral Alignment Index (Partisan EAI), it ranks as the 2nd most Democratic of 504 towns.
