State House District 42 is one of Maine’s 151 State House districts, as drawn in the 2021 redistricting plan and in effect since the 2022 election. Its population was 8,656 in the 2020 Census.
It takes in Rockland, Owls Head, North Haven, and Matinicus Isle Plantation. It is represented in the Maine House of Representatives by Rep. Valli Geiger (D-Rockland).
In the 2024 presidential race, Kamala Harris carried the district with 63.2% to 34.3% for Donald Trump. That was a Democratic margin of 28.9 points, against a Democratic margin of 6.9 points statewide. In the 2022 governor’s race, Janet Mills carried the district with 66.3% to 32% for Paul LePage. In the 2024 U.S. Senate race, Angus King (Unenrolled) carried the district with 58.8% to 25.1% for Demi Kouzounas. On the Partisan Electoral Alignment Index (Partisan EAI), it ranks as the 30th most Democratic of 151 State House districts.
