It is part of Congressional District 1, State Senate District 12, State House District 42, and County Commissioner District 1, in the Midcoast region.

In the 2024 presidential race, Kamala Harris carried Rockland with 64.7% to 32.5% for Donald Trump. That was a Democratic margin of 32.2 points, against a Democratic margin of 6.9 points statewide. In the 2022 governor’s race, Janet Mills carried Rockland with 68.6% to 29.6% for Paul LePage. In the 2024 U.S. Senate race, Angus King (Unenrolled) carried Rockland with 59.5% to 23.7% for Demi Kouzounas. On the Partisan Electoral Alignment Index (Partisan EAI), it ranks as the 33rd most Democratic of 504 towns.
