Incorporated 1804 as FairfaxAlbion is an old poetic name for England. Settled as Freetown Plantation, it was incorporated as Fairfax, renamed Ligonia in 1821 and Albion in 1824.

Albion is a town in Kennebec County, Maine, incorporated in 1804 as Fairfax. It has an estimated 2,092 residents (2025), compared with 2,006 in the 2020 Census.
It is part of Congressional District 1, State Senate District 16, State House District 63, and County Commissioner District 3, in the Central Maine region.
In the 2024 presidential race, Donald Trump carried Albion with 66.4% to 32.1% for Kamala Harris. That was a Republican margin of 34.3 points, against a Democratic margin of 6.9 points statewide. In the 2022 governor’s race, Paul LePage carried Albion with 63.7% to 34.1% for Janet Mills. In the 2024 U.S. Senate race, Demi Kouzounas carried Albion with 50.6% to 39.5% for Angus King (Unenrolled). On the Partisan Electoral Alignment Index (Partisan EAI), it ranks as the 94th most Republican of 504 towns.
