Bangor is a city in Penobscot County, Maine, incorporated in 1791, a city since 1834. It has an estimated 32,518 residents (2025), compared with 31,753 in the 2020 Census.
It is part of Congressional District 2, State Senate District 9, State House District 23 (30% of residents), State House District 22 (30% of residents), State House District 21 (28% of residents), State House District 24 (13% of residents), and County Commissioner District 1, in the Greater Bangor region.
In the 2024 presidential race, Kamala Harris carried Bangor with 58.6% to 39% for Donald Trump. That was a Democratic margin of 19.6 points, against a Democratic margin of 6.9 points statewide. In the 2022 governor’s race, Janet Mills carried Bangor with 63% to 34.9% for Paul LePage. In the 2024 U.S. Senate race, Angus King (Unenrolled) carried Bangor with 52.4% to 30.2% for Demi Kouzounas. On the Partisan Electoral Alignment Index (Partisan EAI), it ranks as the 64th most Democratic of 504 towns.
