It is part of Congressional District 2, State Senate District 19, State House District 78, and County Commissioner District 2, in the Western Maine region.

In the 2024 presidential race, Kamala Harris carried Hanover with 56.6% to 41.8% for Donald Trump. That was a Democratic margin of 14.8 points, against a Democratic margin of 6.9 points statewide. In the 2022 governor’s race, Janet Mills carried Hanover with 52.3% to 46% for Paul LePage. In the 2024 U.S. Senate race, Angus King (Unenrolled) carried Hanover with 63.7% to 25.4% for Demi Kouzounas.
