It is part of Congressional District 2, State Senate District 8, State House District 26, and County Commissioner District 3, in the Greater Bangor region.

In the 2024 presidential race, Kamala Harris carried Old Town with 55% to 42.4% for Donald Trump. That was a Democratic margin of 12.6 points, against a Democratic margin of 6.9 points statewide. In the 2022 governor’s race, Janet Mills carried Old Town with 59.6% to 38.3% for Paul LePage. In the 2024 U.S. Senate race, Angus King (Unenrolled) carried Old Town with 49.9% to 30.8% for Demi Kouzounas. On the Partisan Electoral Alignment Index (Partisan EAI), it ranks as the 77th most Democratic of 504 towns.
