Saco is a city in York County, Maine, incorporated in 1775 as Pepperellborough, a city since 1867. It has an estimated 21,159 residents (2025), compared with 20,381 in the 2020 Census.
It is part of Congressional District 1, State Senate District 31, State House District 129 (43% of residents), State House District 130 (43% of residents), State House District 126 (14% of residents), and County Commissioner District 3, in the Southern Coast region.
In the 2024 presidential race, Kamala Harris carried Saco with 62.1% to 35.9% for Donald Trump. That was a Democratic margin of 26.2 points, against a Democratic margin of 6.9 points statewide. In the 2022 governor’s race, Janet Mills carried Saco with 65.6% to 32.8% for Paul LePage. In the 2024 U.S. Senate race, Angus King (Unenrolled) carried Saco with 55.2% to 30.3% for Demi Kouzounas. On the Partisan Electoral Alignment Index (Partisan EAI), it ranks as the 49th most Democratic of 504 towns.
