It is part of Congressional District 1, State Senate District 30 (93% of residents), State Senate District 29 (7% of residents), State House District 125 (42% of residents), State House District 124 (40% of residents), State House District 126 (19% of residents), and County Commissioner District 1, in the Greater Portland region.

In the 2024 presidential race, Kamala Harris carried Scarborough with 64.9% to 33.4% for Donald Trump. That was a Democratic margin of 31.5 points, against a Democratic margin of 6.9 points statewide. In the 2022 governor’s race, Janet Mills carried Scarborough with 65.5% to 32.9% for Paul LePage. In the 2024 U.S. Senate race, Angus King (Unenrolled) carried Scarborough with 58.3% to 27.8% for Demi Kouzounas. On the Partisan Electoral Alignment Index (Partisan EAI), it ranks as the 57th most Democratic of 504 towns.
