State Senate District 23 is one of Maine’s 35 State Senate districts, as drawn in the 2021 redistricting plan and in effect since the 2022 election. Its population was 40,917 in the 2020 Census.
It takes in Brunswick, Freeport, Harpswell, Yarmouth, Pownal, and Chebeague Island. It is represented in the Maine Senate by Sen. Matthea E.L. Daughtry (D-Brunswick).
In the 2024 presidential race, Kamala Harris carried the district with 69.4% to 28.3% for Donald Trump. That was a Democratic margin of 41.1 points, against a Democratic margin of 6.9 points statewide. In the 2022 governor’s race, Janet Mills carried the district with 71.9% to 26.6% for Paul LePage. In the 2024 U.S. Senate race, Angus King (Unenrolled) carried the district with 65.4% to 21.7% for Demi Kouzounas. On the Partisan Electoral Alignment Index (Partisan EAI), it ranks as the 4th most Democratic of 35 State Senate districts.
